Y’all…I’m so excited to share with you the top posts from The Modern Nest of 2017 that I can barely hold myself together!
I came up with the idea for The Modern Nest on vacation in January 2017, and it was officially born at the end of March 2017 (originally has “Homemaker Synonymous,” possibly the worst blog name in history!). In a short time we have come a long way, despite several challenges along the way. While we still have a long way to go to reach our goals, I’m happy to see how much progress we’ve made!
Seeing what you guys loved most (and least) from this year is both fun and informative. It gives me an opportunity to figure out what you want more of from me, and (more importantly) what you don’t want more of from me. That said, let’s look at the top posts of 2017:
Side note: For this post I have not normalized the pageviews to the amount of time they have been published.
Coming in at the number ten spot is 10 Signs You Need to Get Organized Now. I’m actually surprised this post made the list, as traffic for this post spiked and then fell off. Nonetheless, it clearly gained enough interest that it made it into the top ten!
Looks like I’m not the only one without a dedicated room for an office in my home! I published How to Organize an Office Space When You Don’t Have an Office towards the end of the year, but it definitely struck a chord with everyone. I hope my step-by-step advice in this post was helpful!
Your key to an organized home
I’m so excited to see that everyone wants to breathe new life into their older homes! Older homes certainly provide unique functional, design and organizing challenges, but you are ready to grab ’em by the horns!
7-) The Scientific Reason You Should Ignore Cleaning Advice that Mixes Vinegar and Baking Soda (And What to do Instead)
When I decided to join the home blogging community, I hoped I could use my background in Chemistry to provide a unique perspective on cleaning, home management, and healthy living. But I wasn’t sure how well the internet would tolerate me discussing and challenging certain beliefs.
Fortunately, you guys seem to love it! You clearly want facts and information that can be backed up, and I am happy to give that to you with posts like The Scientific Reason You Should Ignore Cleaning Advice that Mixes Vinegar and Baking Soda (And What to do Instead)!
When I first posted Why You Won’t Get Organized in 30 Minutes or Less I thought, “Oh my, people aren’t going to like to hear this!” So I decided to follow that post up with tasks that you can do in less than 30 minutes.
And it’s a good thing I did, because you much preferred to hear what you can do than what you can’t do with your time (and I agree!)
Here’s another top post on organizing a small space! In How to Organize a Small Pantry, I show you how I turned a linen closet into a pantry that maximizes space and functionality. It’s a great source of ideas for anyone who struggles to find space to organize all those snacks, cereal, bulk items, and more!
Laundry stain removal can feel complicated, but it seems as you would prefer an easier approach! Everyone seemed to enjoy my science experiment-type approach to showing you how you can remove most stains with only two ingredients you already have at home!
While my crochet projects generally perform well, none performed as well as the roundup of crochet halloween bag patterns! It’s not surprising…these patterns are absolutely adorable and they add a great personal touch for the kiddos when trick-or-treating!
Whoa…I didn’t post the article on reducing visual clutter until December, but it soared to the number two most-read posts of 2017! With that kind of popularity, we’ll definitely be revisiting visual clutter in 2018!
Coming in at the number one most read post from The Modern Nest in 2017 is How to Get Organized: 9 Attitudes You Have to Change!
Honestly, I wrote this post on a whim when I was feeling frustrated at how poorly organized my family are. I took a mental note of how they approached keeping their homes and wrote down how it was preventing them from having a clean and functional home.
The idea was that I could help you from struggling with the same mental roadblocks. And whoa, did it resonate! From the feedback, I learned that many of you identified with specific points in that post. And as a result, you felt empowered to overcome them so you could get organized for good. So all-in-all, I’d say it was a successful post!
If you were hoping for more DIY projects in the top ten, don’t fret! My DIY farmhouse mug and measuring spoon holder makes honorable mention as a simple an useful DIY project that looks absolutely adorable in the kitchen!
So with all the success of the top ten posts, what didn’t perform quite as well?
In general, neither my healthy living nor my parenting posts were favorites.
And to be honest, I’m not very surprised. I purposely have grown my healthy living section slowly so far. I have plans for an outreach program with university students to help me with reading research articles (which gets time consuming). It will allow me to offer you up-to-date and sound advice on healthy and sustainable living topics, but I will have to wait until The Modern Nest turns a profit in order to fund the program. But we’re working on it!
As for parenting topics, I have struggled to find my sweet spot. I don’t consider myself a mommy blogger (there are much better mom blogs out there!), but I do believe that there is an important place for motherhood topics when it comes to making our homes functional and beautiful. I will continue working on it in 2018 and hopefully provide you with valuable content.
That about wraps up our discussion on the top posts from The Modern Nest of 2017! What would you like to see more of in 2018? Let me know in the comments or shoot me an email at [email protected] I’d love to hear from you!
