Oh hey there!
I’m Amanda , and I’m so flattered that you decided to stop by The Modern Nest today!
The Modern Nest is my little nook on the internet where I share tips, projects, and resources on anything related to modern home life. Of course- as you know- building a functional and less stressful life in today’s world can be tricky. The balance of a seemingly endless number of areas in our lives is a delicate one, and most of us encounter a lot of challenges along the way, such as:
Getting organized
Learning to DIY things around the house
Living a cleaner lifestyle
Building a home that’s clean, functional, warm, beautiful, and relaxed
Doing-it-all while also working towards our own goals
I’ll be honest, it takes a lot of hard work to make one-let alone all– of these life facets to work smoothly. My mission is to help you work through these challenges by taking all the lessons I’ve learned and passing them on to you. The lessons aren’t always easy, but hopefully I can inspire you to make your home functional, organized, and beautiful. Wherever you’re at, I want you to take your home to the next level! After all, it’s your life, your home: Make it yours, and own it!
So, now that you know what this blog is about, let me give you some fun facts about me:
1-) I am mom to two humans (William aka “Little Grasshopper,” and Greg aka “Bubaloo”) and two feline fur babies (Linus and Luisa).
The chaos is real.
-) I am married to Ted. Or Ed…
He’s formally “Edward.” He goes by both depending on who’s talking to him. He grew up in England with and American mom and a New Zealander dad. So he’s cool enough to have three citizenships.
3-) I barely stand at 5’0”, but my nickname in college was “Spitfire”…
…Which may attest to my personality a little.
4-) Ed and I both left PhD programs in Chemistry.
Ed was in grad school and I was an undergrad when we started dating. He left chemistry to become a software engineer in Boston. We moved to Boston together and I did grad school while he built up his new career. I despised the cutthroat nature of grad school, so I defended my work and left after William was born.
5-) I am a Philly girl through-and-through.
I grew up in the Philly suburbs and graduated undergrad from Temple University’s Honors Program. I never quite fit in Boston and after 6 years of living there we moved back to the Philly area. Absolutely no regrets.
